Spiros Kontakis hidden design showroom

ATHENS, ANAKTORA

Spiros Kontakis started off making and performing music in the 1980s. Some 25 years later he felt that he needed to re-invent his ...future as an artist and meet up with his "childish" self. He then took his pencils and started drawing images of objects and pieces of furniture, which, although static, have the tendency to move on to the next stage of their existence, obtain consciousness and eventually break free. If “form follows function” is the mantra of the modernists, then designer Spiros Kontakis makes no exception. As he clearly puts it, “we conceive the object as a work of art which does not lose its functional purpose”. Spiros’s design atelier is a welcoming space in the affluent neighborhood of Anaktora right by the national garden and the presidential palace. All his objects and furniture are manufactured in Greece and provide a fertile ground of discourse on space, aesthetics, functionality. Meet him personally and get yourself acquainted with the new generation of Greek designers and their vision.
