City Art Rotterdam is a project of Chris Ripken and Hannie Bierens. They have a large building, which was nominated in 1999 to be demolished, refurbished and built to a stunning arts center. The building includes 5 large rooms, each about 200 square meters and a smaller room of 60 square meters. Chris has a large workshop with welding, ceramics kilns and woodworking machines. The post-industrial property began as a fur and suede clothing workshop, downstairs you could find the tannery and upstairs the studio. Later this building has served as a supermarket for several owners. Chris Ripken has completed the school of arts in Maastricht successfully in 1986, he has obtained a 1st grade teacher training. In 1989, Chris came to Rotterdam with his family, and he has dedicated himself to making "street art", applied art to defend the neighborhood that against the degradation, caused by urban renewal. Up to now Chris has been seriously involved in the design of public space with applied art for and by residents. Chris has realized a large collection of sculptures. A large number of state are exhibited in City Art Rotterdam. Hannie Bierens has in her professional career focused on the social and societal issues. As a trainer / coach Hannie involved in the projects that Chris realizes.
